Sandra Bury, OD
Dr. Bury graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1995 and joined Dr. Floyd Woods in his Oak Lawn office where she worked as a student. She worked to grow the practice and moved it to its current location in 2006. She is proud to provide true independent, quality professional care to her patients and continually works to improve her patient’s experience and clinical outcomes. She does examinations in English and Spanish. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Illinois Optometric Association and Chicago South Suburban Optometric Society.
She is Past-President of the Illinois Optometric Association and Chicago South Suburban Optometric Association where she expanded coverages for vision care for children, access to care state-wide and enhanced optometric scope of practice. She was a Senior Clinical Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.
Her community is her passion and she is a Past President of the Oak Lawn Rotary Club, former long-time Director of the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the Oak Lawn Elks Club and is in her second term as Mayor of the Village of Oak Lawn. She also has served her community by providing screenings for area day care centers, shelters, Worth Township, schools and charitable organizations.
Her service to her fellow man has carried her around the world providing free care to those with no access to care. She is Past-President of VOSH-Illinois and Past Vice-President of VOSH-International. (VOSH.org) Her foreign missions include: Vallegrande-Bolivia, Chihuahua-Mexico, Santa Domingo-Ecuador, Oaxaca City-Mexico, Grenada, Zimatlan-Mexico, Ahuachapan-El Salvador, Panama City-Panama, Loreto-Mexico, San Ignacio-Mexico, Santa Barbara-Costa Rica, Batey Monte Christi-Dominican Replubic, Diriamba-Nicaragua, Cusco-Peru, Vilnius-Lithuania, Durango-Mexico, and Managua-Nicaragua.
Dr. Bury received the following awards: Park Lawn’s Blue Saphhire Award, VOSH-International Humanitarian of the Year, the Illinois College of Optometry Humanitarian Award, the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Women Owned Business award, the Oak Lawn Community Partership ACE Award, the Illinois College of Optometry Alumnus of the Year, Vision Service Plan’s People First Award, the American Optometric Association Young Optometrist of the Year, Jobson Publishing’s One of the Fifty Most Influential Women in Optical, the Illinois Optometric Association’s Young Optometrist of the Year, and Prevent Blindness America’s Woman of Vision award.
Darrell Schlange, OD, DOS FAAO
Dr. Schlange is internationally recognized for his work in pediatrics, binocular vision and ocular motility. He was a member of the Illinois Commission on Children, Illinois Youth Council and the White House Conference on Children. When not practicing full-scope primary care in Oak Lawn, Dr. Schlange is an Associate Professor at the Illinois College of Optometry. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, a Member of the American Optometric Association, a Member of the Illinois Optometric Association, a Member of the Chicago South Suburban Optometric Society, a Member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, a Member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and a Member of the Optometric Extension Program.
He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois College of Optometry Alumni Association, an Honorary Doctor of Optometric Science from the Illinois College of Optometry, a Service Award from the Illinois Conference on Children, a Recognition Award as Founding Father and 40 Years of Service from the Beacon Therapeutic Center, and many other awards of professional recognition. He has published in College of Vision Development, Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Academy of Optometry, the International Conference on Behavioral Optometry and other peer reviewed professional publications.
Mohammad Salem, OD
Dr. Salem is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association, the Illinois Optometric Association, the Cornea and Contact Lens Society and Chicago South Suburban Optometric Society. His clinical interests include primary care, corneal disease, pre-and post-operative care, specialty contact lenses, and binocular vision. He is a life-long resident of the area and performs examinations in English and Arabic.
